Goulburn has a rich architectural heritage and the gallery is located in the Philip Cox designed Civic Centre, which is a focal part of that evolving heritage. The gallery's exhibition and public programs focus on contemporary art covering a wide range of art and craft media. GRAG’s permanent collection consists of more than 300 works of art, which includes paintings, prints, drawings, textiles, sculptures and ceramics. There is a regular showing of the permanent collection in December each year; a selection of works is displayed, usually according to a chosen theme. The collection is made up of acquisitions and donations, the focus of the collection being on works by regional artists, works of regional significance or works of national significance.
