The Broken Hill City Art Gallery is the oldest Regional Gallery in New South Wales and contains one of the State's most exciting collections. Once reknowned for its important mining industry and strong collective of unions, the town is now recognised for the strength of its art community. Galleries and artists studios fill the city - and surrounding areas such as the ghost town of Silverton, 20 kms away. It is a city proud of its heritage, a living museum surrounded by that rich and unique landscape which so inspires its artists.
The collection includes excellent examples of Australian colonial and modernist art, Aboriginal art, works by local artists and an extensive collection of both traditional and contemporary works on paper.
